산엔청 SAN CHEONG SANCHEONG

This event is a Korean traditional music festival for commemorating and honoring of the late Gisan Park Heon-bong, who was a forerunner of Gukak, and his accomplishments. Being held in Sancheong, which is his birthplace, this festival aims to reilluminate his great accomplishments and develop cultures and arts in Sancheong. On the purposes of expanding the foundation for Korean traditional musicians, so as to scout for talented rookie musicians and enhance the morale for Korean traditional music, National Students Gukak Contest is also being held.

As a local folklore festival designated by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this festival is held in October every year in order to honor the life and spirit of Nammyeong Jo Sik , who was a leading figure in practical Confucianism in the Joseon Dynasty. The epic theatre performance, expedition ceremony for righteous army, an academic conference, and Sunbimunhwa experience are included in the festival.

This is a government-supportive event arranged by Sancheong-gun National Agricultural Cooperate Federation and sponsored by Sancheong-gun. It informs the urban consumers of Maettugi (grasshopper) rice cultivated in Chahwang-myeon, Sancheong-gun organically in fertile, unpolluted soil with fresh air, high diurnal range, and clean water from Jirisan Mountain.

Well-known for Jirisan Mountain and Donguibogam, Sancheong is a region which turned out excellent doctors from Ui Seong Heo Jun, who was the author of Donguibogam and the best doctor in his contemporary era, to Chosam and Chogaek, brothers who were renowned even in China in late Joseon Dynasty. Sancheong is an original place of medicinal herbs, growing in the mountain range of Jirisan Mountain, whose superiority is widely well-known and whose effects are superb.

As a festival for promoting the quality dried persimmon produced in Sancheong, all kinds of performances and food and beverage tastings are held in the festival. Sancheong dried persimmon is naturally freeze-dried with frosty air current in Jirisan Mountain and is high in sugar content as being dried with temperate sunlight, and has been gaining popularity since being the first in the dried persimmon category in Korea to be recorded (as No. 3 of Korea Forest Service) in the Geographical Indication System.

In November, 1969, the Peace Festival was started to gather citizens together and yearn for peace by breaking through Korean tragic contemporary history. Its fundamental goal is to awaken the people‘s loyal spirit in the tragic site where rebels from the Yoesu-Suncheon Rebellion entered Jirisan Mountain.

Hwangmaesan Mountain Royal Azalea Festival is held at the beginning of May every year with other events including climbing tournament, a singing contest, natural purification movement in order to inform the nation of the excellence of the royal azalea, which presents red scarlet colored flowers of vast high plateau, and to wish the well-being for citizens of Chahwang-myeon and a good harvest.

The rafting refers to a leports where you go shooting the rapids of the river and valley while rowing together on a boat made of PVC or rubber. With Jirisan Mountain, which is called one of the best mountains ever, as its backdrop Gyeonghogang River is flowing serenely in beautiful landscape in harmony with the people‘s generous mind, while keeping the pride of Sancheong.
