Museums
The Sancheong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do held its 7th Sancheong Jirisan Medical Herb Festival from May 4th to 9th in 2007 in the public sports ground in Sancheong-eup and in various locations of the Traditional Herbal Medicine Recreational Complex. On the first day of the festival, at 3 PM on May 4th (Friday), an opening ceremony was held for the Sancheong Oriental Medicine Museum.
The Sancheong Oriental Medicine Museum utilizes the local resources of Sancheong-gun, a place rich in natural environmental conditions and in the heritage of traditional Korean herbal medicine.
The museum was established by Sancheong-gun and will be operated by the Pusan National University School of Korean Medicine it is the first museum in Korea with a specialized focus on oriental medicine. The Sancheong Oriental Medicine Museum is a space where the past, present and future co-exists, providing continuity in our medical heritage and herbal treatments which have defended the health of our nation since the years of Dangun, our nation‘s legendary founding father. The museum will be a cornerstone in our efforts to develop new medical treatments and deliver the benefits of Korea‘s oriental medicine to all of humanity.
Exhibit Hall 1 focuses on traditional medicine. Space 1 introduces the history and development of oriental medicine, Space 2 explains traditional treatment techniques, Space 3 demonstrates the outstanding benefits of oriental medicine, and Space 4 allows visitors to experience oriental medicine first hand. Exhibition Hall 2 displays medicinal herbs: Space 5 presents the history and classification, Space 6 gives more information about medicinal herbs, and Space 7 introduces Sancheong-gun, an area renowned for its local medicinal herbs. We invite you to bring the whole family to learn about the history of our national medical traditions and learn various traditional techniques you can apply yourself. This will also be a great opportunity to experience oriental medicine first hand and become informed about the various medicinal herbs available (such as the wild ginseng, which is similar to cultivated ginseng in applicability or efficacy but which is far superior in medicinal benefits, or dicentra, which originates from China and groups in rock piles or valleys in mountainous regions but which is also cultivated for display).
- Purpose : To exhibit and systematically manage historical remains from the Gaya era that have been excavated in Sancheong-gun
- Number of Relics : 108 items, including earthenware from the Gaya Period. Located inside the Saengcho Sculpture Park
